Dr. Nico Riffel, patent attorney since 2010 and professional representative before the European Patent Office since 2014 and European Patent Litigator UPC (CEIPI) since 2019, successfully represents his clients in patent, trade mark and design law matters as well as in German and international patent litigation.

He studied biochemistry at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Frankfurt on Main, followed by a one-year research stay at the Welcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford. He wrote his diploma thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics in Frankfurt am Main and his doctoral thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg im Breisgau. Dr Nico Riffel has been working in the field of intellectual property since 2006.

From 2006 to 2010, he worked at a renowned law office in Munich. From 2012 to 2019 he was “In-house Global Patent Counsel” at Sanofi S.A., since 2020 he has been “Of Counsel” for the office.

Dr Nico Riffel’s professional focus is on biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical technology, biology, especially structural biology and immunobiology, biotechnology, especially biomarkers and antibodies, as well as organic chemistry and cosmetics.
